For Faculty/Instructors
The PATH to Care Center offers many prevention and support services, meant to provide you with the best tools to be prepared to address issues that arise within your department or courses. As part of these services, we can assist you in:
Crafting an example syllabus statement accessible to all members of your courses. On issues of harassment and violence, language matters a great deal, and it’s important to be inclusive. We can assist you in crafting language for your syllabus to help students understand their rights, help survivors feel comfortable, and address any pieces of your course or materials within the course that may intersect with these issues.
Intentionally creating a classroom free of violence and harm. Sexual violence and harassment are not inevitable, and there are preemptive steps you can take to prevent your students from causing or experiencing harm. We can help you build on your existing knowledge and practices to make sure all students have access to safe learning spaces. We can help you be sure you are factoring in cultural competency and accessibility for all communities and backgrounds of the students you serve.
Assessing your department’s culture. When it comes to sexual violence and harassment, it’s important that we not just address our individual behaviors, but that we also examine how our culture either perpetuates harm or actively creates safety. Here at Cal, many of our academic departments are communities of their own, with their own norms and values. We can help you and your colleagues to collectively work to lift up positive and healthy norms and values, while doing away with those that allow harassment and violence to occur.

For Student Organization Leaders
The PATH to Care Center offers many prevention and support services, meant to provide you with the best tools to be prepared to address issues that arise within your student group. As part of these services, we can assist you in best addressing these issues in your organization. Each student group serves unique roles in the Berkeley community, and serves different community members. Every student group is well-positioned to address these issues. We’re here to help – not only in developing a response plan after incidents are brought to a student organization’s attention, but in crafting a plan for best preventing violence and harassment within an organization’s framework. We can:

Implement regular sexual violence prevention trainings for staff and faculty. Ongoing trainings are useful both in keeping up to date on best practices, as well as for ensuring your department is doing all it can to prevent violence.
Work with your department leadership to create or update your sexual violence prevention and response policy
